Early Childhood Educator:

  • Compensation is $22+ (depending on qualification and experience)

  • Plus an additional $6 dollar Wage Enhancement

Our educators are responsible for:

Children – Guiding children’s behaviour in a manner that assists children in developing respect, self-control, self-confidence and sensitivity in their interactions with others.  Maintains a calm and positive attitude in the childcare environment, especially during peak periods and uses appropriate conflict resolution and guidance methods. Facilitates play through interactions, initiating, modeling, and use of language and by being a ‘player’ at the child’s level. Promotes an environment that is inclusive and sensitive towards children of varying backgrounds, abilities, cultures and languages.  Works with childcare specialists to promote the wellness of the children they are working with and demonstrates respect towards the children.

Administration – Is prepared for and attends room and general staff meetings.  Assists in program administrative duties including drop-in sheets, newsletters, etc. Is flexible in changes in work assignments/ new procedures. Helps make Teachers On-Call feel welcome and orients them to program needs.  Assists in program planning and other general duties.  Shares responsibilities and duties of classroom and consistently assists others.  Demonstrates respect for coworkers and refrains from inappropriate language and behaviour in the workplace.  Personally, adheres to and expects high ethical standards from coworkers.  Follows direction of the Head Teacher and Management.  Demonstrates a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Centre’s policies and procedures.

Working with Families – Develops a consistent commitment to family service at all times by establishing quality communication with families in regards to their child and childcare. Able to direct clients to Centre and community resources available for families. Promotes parent involvement in the program and/or Centre.

Health and Safety - Monitors and records children’s physical and emotional health status.  Routinely scans the child environment for hazards and potentially dangerous situations.  Regularly updates self on children’s allergies and other conditions.  Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment, toys, bathroom areas and floor to Centre standards. Practices and promotes personal hygiene routines.  Ensures that all Centre policies relating to Health, Safety and Nutrition are followed.  Takes appropriate action with unfamiliar people on site. Follows protocol for reporting of accidents, injuries, illness or abuse.  Maintains a current valid first-aid certification.  Performs duties in a safety conscious manner consistent with Mountain Minis and government policies, procedures and training.
